Description

OIL-COVERED WORKER NEAR GUSHING OIL WELL, TEMPLE LEASE Color: Black; White A reproduction photograph of an oil worker walking away from a gushing oil well and covered with the product, Temple Lease, Montebello Hills oil field, ca. 1918. The man is in the foreground heading towards the camera. He is drenched in oil from head to toe and wears a short-sleeved shirt, pants, cap, and shoes. Behind him, in the background, is a well with oil streaming through the wooden derrick and into the sky with product falling onto the hill behind the well. Aside from the derrick and some of the wood supports, there is little of note in the photograph, although here are power lines and what might be a storage tank in the far background. The hill is barren with little evidence of plant life and no other human development there. As a newly-created artifact, the item is in mint condition. Number-Units: 1
