The view is taken from across a narrow paved road and shows almost the entire height of the derrick, as well as the wooden shed at the ground level. A 1920s automobile is on the road in the background and, in the distance, there are low hills dotted with other oil derricks. On the reverse is an ink inscription "OIL WELL AT BREA CAL." With a few small stains, some fairly heavy creasing, soiling, and dogeared corners, the overall condition is still good.
