"Oil Wells in Los Angeles, Cal.," C. C. Pierce, ca. 1900. The colored image shows about fifteen to twenty wooden derricks, some tanks, an oil pool and a few structures, including homes, on either side of a street. This is certainly the original city field northwest of downtown. There is a paper label at the left margin and Pierce's cartouche at the right. A crack runs the length of the glass from the upper left to lower right and there is soiling and rubbing on the mount, so the condition is fair.
