Color: Black; White
A mounted black and white photograph of an oil field in Los Angeles, ca. 1915. Many oil derricks are from left to right and across the background on a hill. Between the derricks are many structures. Many of these are two-story with pitched roofs and wood siding. At the center of the foreground are a small wood structure, a steam machine, large round containers, and miscellaneous machinery. In white letters at the bottom center of the cardboard is "OIL WELLS / LOS ANGELES." At the bottom right corner is "THE PHILADELPHIA MUSEUMS." On the back is an explanation of the United States petroleum industry, including how it is obtained; how it petroleum stored; how it is transported; how it is processed; where it is plentifull; and how it compares to production with the rest of the oil-producing nations. All of the latter is in brown printing. In fair condition, most of the damage is found on the cardboard including dents at the corners; soiling; pencil marks on the back; moisture damage; stains; and tears. The photograph itself suffers only from light soiling.
