Description

Color: Black; White An unused real photo postcard of the Old Mission Play Building, San Gabriel, California, made by The Albertype Co., Brooklyn, New York and published by the Mission Curio and Art Shop at the nearby San Gabriel Mission, 1920s. The image shows the entrance to the theater from the middle of Mission Drive. There is a tall wall alongside the sidewalk and street with a small ticket booth to the right of the entrance gate at center. Because of several large trees growing next to the wall and sidewalk, it is difficult to see much, if at all, of the detail of the theater. A car is parked on the side of the street near the theater at the far left and there is a man in a black suit standing next to the auto on the sidewalk. In 1927, the current San Gabriel Civic Auditorium, then known as the Mission Playhouse, was completed replacing this theater. At the bottom center is the caption "Old Mission Play Building. San Gabriel, California." On the reverse is the publisher's information at the left, the manufacturer's name at the center, and spaces for the message and the address. With corner rubbing; corner creases; soiling on the back; yellowing and slight loss at the bottom left corner; and a tear at the bottom right corner, the condition is good.
