"On 3rd and Hill Sts," Los Angeles, Lemuel S. Ellis, ca. 1880s. The view is taken from the southeast corner of the intersection with a portion of the adjacent yard in the foregound. On the opposite corner (southwest) is a Queen Anne-style home with a raised foundation. Atop the hill at the southeast corner of 3rd and Grand is a larger Queen Anne. At the right next to a pepper tree is a sidewalk ascending the hill on the south side of 3rd, which is where the Angels Flight funicular railway was later built. On the back is an ink inscription used here as the title, as well as the stamp of Ellis, who styled himself a "Landscape Photographer." With some curvature of the paper, soiling, and edge rubbing, the item's condition is overall good.
