Description

A snapshot photograph, "On the Porch at the Ranch House at El Rancho de Los Tres Hermanos," 16 September 1925. The image shows a young woman holding a book while reclining in a hammock on the porch of the structure, which stood atop a hill (see item .4 of the accession for a distant view of the hill.) The ranch was purchased in 1914 by William Benjamin Scott, William R. Rowland and Harry Chandler, partners in the Columbia Oil Producing Company who bought, in 1914, the 2,500 acre ranch in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties in present-day Diamond Bar and Chino Hills and, thus, were the "three brothers" in the ranch name. The title and date are inscribed in ink on the reverse by original owner Pauline Hoffman Herd, who may be pictured here. With some light soiling, the condition is good.
