Description

ONE OF A PAIR OF BOOKENDS WITH "THE LAST TRAIL" MOTIF Color: Gold One of a pair of metal bookends with "The Last Trail" motif, copyrighted, 1928. The outside face of the piece has the image of an Indian mounted bareback on a horse and posed with a dejected aspect, leaning forward with head downcast. In the right hand and touching the ground, rather than held erect, is a metal-tipped spear. Even the horse, with its head bent toward the ground and back arched looks defeated. At the edge of the arch-shaped object are a series of swastikas. On the reverse, incised into the metal is the following: "THE LAST TRAIL / COPYTIGHT 1928 / STYLE 1" with a logo of a triangle within a circle underneath. The surface was painted to make the piece appear to be made of bronze. Except for some chipping of the paint and residue adhered to the surface, the artifact is in good condition.
