Description
"Orange and Walnut Orchard, Gen. Stoneman, San Gab'l. 4398" by Carleton Watkins, 1877. The image, part of Watkins' New Series, is taken from the center of a row between orange trees in the foreground going about four deep and then walnut trees in the distance. There appears to be a visible terminus of the row, perhaps at Stoneman's home or some other feature of the ranch. Stoneman was later governor of California. There is a stamp for a Worcester, Massachusetts business on the back and some pencil inscriptions. With soiling, some stains and a center vertical crease, the overall condition is good.
