2010.54.1.1Description
"Orange Grove in Bloom, Los Angeles," James D. Westervelt, 1880s. The image shows a man and a dog standing in as furrowed aisle between long rows of tall orange trees with loads of fruit on them. The title is in ink on the reverse with additional pencil inscriptions reading "1885 / Wolfskill Orange Grove," referring to the William Wolfskill grove on Alameda Street, first planted in 1841. There is also a stamp, which appears to be contemporaneous, from the "Depot of Stereoscopic Views" on Spring Street in Los Angeles. With rubbing, some stains, soiling, and a few creases, the overall condition is good.Lexicon
