Description

Color: Black; White A black and white stereoview of navel orange groves in the San Gabriel Valley, manufactured by the Keystone View Company, 1909. The side-by-side images, which are adhered onto a grey cardboard, show many rows of groves and other scattered trees that seem to cover most of the valley to the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in the distance. A trail of steam, probably from a locomotive, appears from east to west. To the right of this is a small rocky hill. At the left of the foreground is part of a rock formation. The manufacturer's and printer's names are printed vertically along the left of the cardboard. At the bottom right is "13546--More than 10,000 Acres of Navel Orange Groves, San Gabriel Valley, Cal., U. S. A." The manufacturer's business locations are printed vertically down the right. Printed at the top of the back is the number "60," and this is followed by a brief history of the origins of orange cultivation and the success of the industry in California. The date and manufacturer's name are at the bottom center. In good overall condition, the artifact has some adhesive remaining from a price label on the back; some creases and dents at the corners; light surface soiling; and some stains on the front and back.
