Description

ORIGINAL COURTYARD DOOR, LA CASA NUEVA LIBRARY Color: Color A color photograph of the original courtyard door in the La Casa Nueva Library, ca. 1979. The close-up shows the six panels in the door, but none of the wood in the door, which is in shadow. Clockwise from the top left are portraits, within leaf-and-vine oval frames and scrolls beneath with their last names, of Henry Wordsworth Longfellow, Miguel Cervantes, John Milton, and William Shakespeare, though the image is reversed from the actual arrangement in the door. At the center are two panels of clear glass with diagonal leading creating diamond shapes of glass. In three cases there are lead lines made to look like the window was repaired. Through these panels can faintly be seen some columns and other elements of the courtyard. There are a few creases and minor surface soiling on the reverse, but the artifact is in good condition.
