Description

A bound first volume of the magazine "Overland Monthly," July-December 1868. These inaugural six issues of the San Francisco-based journal, edited by Bret Harte and published by A. Roman and Company, include fiction (including Harte's famed "The Luck of Roaring Camp"); poetry by Harte, Ina Coolbrith and others; and essays and articles on natural environments, the chinese, regions of California, Hawaii, California agriculture and vineyards, Mark Twain's "A Californian Abroad" and other pieces, and much more. The boards are edge rubbed with dented corners, scratches, and warping to the cloth, while pages have some foxing and soiling, so the overall condition is fair.
