Description

Color: Brown; Red "Overland with Kit Carson," by George D. Brewerton and edited by Stallo Vinton (New York: Coward-McCann, 1930), 301 pp. A hardcover book in red cloth (a) with a brown dustjacket (b). The dustjacket has the title in red letters at the top of the front cover with the author and editor's names below and a short description of the book at the bottom. In the center, bordered by two red lines is a line drawing by Brewerton of a Conestoga wagon and a rider on horseback near some mountains. The spine has the title, author's last name, publisher's name and an image of a man holding a rifle in a firing position. The work is an autobiographical narrative of Brewerton's trip from Los Angeles to Santa Fe on the Old Spanish Trail with Carson in 1848 and his return to Missouri afterward. It is prefaced by introductions on the trail and the Gold Rush as well as a short biographical sketch on Brewerton. The work is indexed and has a few line drawings by the author. In good condition, there is some wear to the cover and spine edges and a portion of the spine and edges of the dustjacket are missing.
