Description

Color: Brown; Green; Red "Packing Fruit for Tomorrow's Market," a catalog compiled by Asa B. Cutler and Frank W. Cutler and published by the Cutler Manufacturing Company, 1924. The 48-page softcover artifact has a green textured cover with faint horizontal lines. Above the center is the title with the compilers' names underneath. Toward the bottom center is an image of a red apple with leaves and a stem superimposed over a brown horizontal line. The first page has acknowledgements and a statement on the importance of right packing. A table of contents divides the work into two parts: a descriptive text of sizing and packing, containers, and packing houses and their components. The second section is an offering of Cutler products for packing houses, including a history and description of company items, fruit grader models for packing in barrels, baskets and hand packing, combination models, walnut sizers, box presses and conveyers. Page three shows a map of the United States and locations of company representatives with red lines emanating from company headquarters in Portland. There are many photographic illustrations, packing house floor plans, tables and charts, machine sections drawings and other material. Descriptions, often very detailed, accompany listings and there is a directory of firms who supply growers' equipment. Though there is slight wear to the cover, the artifact is in good condition.
