Description

PAGE FROM A PUENTE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE BOOKLET, 1927 Color: Black; White A photograph of a page in a Puente Chamber of Commerce booklet, 1927. The photograph features scenes labeled one through six in and around the town of Puente. Scene one is St. Joseph's Catholic Church. On the right is the church with a pointed tower and large round stained glass window over the front door. The two-story rectory is to the left with a door in the middle and two windows on each floor. Each of the buildings has a path leading to the front door. Below this is scene two which shows the brick W. E. Service Building occupied with three businesses: Mr. Service's real estate office, the Puente Hardware store, and the Shoe Hospital. Scene three on the bottom right is the Puente National Bank positioned at an angle. Next door is a grocery store with four men standing in the front. The top center image is an artist's rendering of the future La Puente Valley Food Market, labeled scene four. It is a brick building with four large arches and one small on the left side. Valley Pipe Yard on the top right is scene five and the yard's small wood office building is on the right with a field full of cement pipes in the forefront. Image six is below and is a close-up photo of a tree branch with five large avocados. In the middle of the image is a description of the city with, "Puente, Calif.," on the top in bold. The advertisement was part of a campaign by the Puente Chamber of Commerce to attract new residents and business to the city. With little signs of wear, the image is in good condition.
