Description

PALM TREE ON TRAILER AT EAST SIDE OF LA CASA NUEVA FOR REPLANTING Color: Black; White A photograph of a palm tree on a trailer on the east side of La Casa Nueva for its replanting, 9 August 1925. The tree, believed to have been planted in 1775 by the priests at Mission San Gabriel, is lying horizontally with much of the base enclosed in a wooden planter box on a trailer in the background. In the foreground is some of the trunk encased in a wooden frame and lying on a small trailer. A pole projects from both ends of this trailer and one end is attached to the trunk for further support. Beyond the trailer in the background are several men standing in a group and the siting for the tree is further past the men. At the right is a portion of the east elevation of La Casa Nueva with the Master Bedroom balcony partially completed and scaffolding up elsewhere along the house. At the far right is the dedication plaque for the house on the east end of the north wall. Although a small portion of the Mission Walkway and a grapevine are at the far left, the area where the tree is consists only of dirt. On the upper left corner of the reverse is the stamped number "133," and the preprinted brand name "VELOX" is throughout. With some discoloration and surface soiling, the overall condition is good.
