PALM TREE ON TRAILER FOR REMOVAL IN SAN GABRIEL FOR REPLANTING AT LA CASA NUEVA
Color: Black; White
A photograph of a palm tree on a trailer for its removal from San Gabriel for replanting at La Casa Nueva, 9 August 1925. The tree, believed to have been planted in 1775 by the priests at Mission San Gabriel, is lying horizontally with much of it on the trailer with a steel I-beam for support, as well as wooden casing for some of the trunk. A large portion of the tree is projecting from the trailer and there are four men pulling a long iron pipe from the truck out to brace the tree. A chain is at the end of this pipe, presumably for securing it to the tree. In the background is a stakebed truck and in the foreground are two pieces of lumber. A pencil inscription on the reverse reads "8-9-25 / S. G. Palm to La Puente Rancho." At the upper left is the stamped number "133," and the preprinted brand name "VELOX" is throughout the reverse. With the upper right corner missing, some discoloration and surface soiling, the overall condition is fair.
