PALM TREE ON TRUCKS FOR REMOVAL IN SAN GABRIEL FOR REPLANTING AT LA CASA NUEVA
Color: Black; White
A photograph of a palm tree on trucks for its removal from San Gabriel for replanting at La Casa Nueva, 9 August 1925. The tree, believed to have been planted in 1775 by the priests at Mission San Gabriel, is lying with its roots in a wooden planter box and this portion on a trailer, while the top of the tree is on a truck some distance ahead. Three men are at the end of the truck doing something with the tree. There is probably a twenty foot gap or more between the truck and the trailer encompassing much of the tree's trunk. On or around the planter box are a pulley and rope and some iron chain. At lower left there appears to be another trailer, but this section is faded, so it is not possible to discern what the item is. On the ground at lower right are some pieces of lumber. A pencil inscription on the reverse reads "8-9-25 moving of S. Gabriel Palm to / La Puente Rancho." At the upper left is the stamped number "133," and the preprinted brand name "VELOX" is throughout the reverse. With some discoloration and surface soiling, the overall condition is good.
