Description

PALM TREE REMOVAL IN SAN GABRIEL FOR REPLANTING AT LA CASA NUEVA Color: Black; White A photograph of the removing of a palm tree in San Gabriel for replanting at La Casa Nueva, 9 August 1925. The tree, believed to have been planted in 1775 by the priests at Mission San Gabriel, is attached via pulleys to a large wooden pole at the right and to other locations at the ground level. A man stands by the pole and there is a young man standing near the tree. In the background are portions of buildings, eucalyptus trees and other items and in the foreground are high weeds. The precise location in San Gabriel is hard to identify. The date is determined by photographs 48.22 and .23. On the lower right corner of the reverse is the stamped number "131" and the preprinted brand name "VELOX" is throughout the reverse. With some discoloration and surface soiling, as well as a small half-inch long tear at the center of the right edge, the overall condition is good. Number-Units: 1
