PALM TREE REMOVAL IN SAN GABRIEL FOR REPLANTING AT LA CASA NUEVA
Color: Black; White
A photograph of the removing of a palm tree in San Gabriel for replanting at La Casa Nueva, 9 August 1925. The tree, believed to have been planted in 1775 by the priests at Mission San Gabriel, is attached via pulleys at the top center and top left to a large wooden pole at the right and to other locations at the ground level, but which are unseen. A man stands by the pole and he may be giving a sign to those operating the pulleys as the tree is being moved. There is a planter box around the tree and some lumber on the ground in the foreground indicates it was built specifically for this tree and its removal. In the background are some trees and parts of buildings, but specifics are hard to make out. The date is derived from one given in photographs 48.22 and .23. On the lower right corner of the reverse is the stamped number "44" and the preprinted brand name "VELOX" is throughout the reverse. With some dogeared corners, discoloration and surface soiling, the overall condition is good.
