Description

"Parade of the I.O.O.F. meeting in Los Angeles, Sept 18, 1888." The cabinet card-sized image shows the procession as seen from the Temple Block looking north onto Main Street. Marchers on foot and horseback are moving toward the south, while onlookers are at the side of the street, on sidewalks, and looking from or on top of buildings. There are American flags and a welcome banner along the street, as well. Notable structures in view are the Downey Block at the left, the Arcadia Block near center and adjoining hotels and smaller commercial bulidings. In the distance is the Pico House and Merced Theater. The title is from a pencil inscription on the reverse. With a tear repaired with tape at the bottom, a small missing portion at the lower right, warping, creases, and some discoloration, the overall condition is fair.
