PASSBOOK, WALTER P. TEMPLE, FARMERS AND MERCHANTS BANK, 1904-1905
Color: Black; Gold; White
A pass book of Walter P. Temple from Farmers and Merchants Bank, Los Angeles, 1904-1905. The cover appears to be cloth and has the bank name and location at the center, along with Temple's name in his handwriting below that. At the top is space for ledger and folio numbers, but these are blank. On the inside front cover is information on accounts using the passbook. The book once contained something like checks for deposited funds and there are now thin receipts left. Many of the checks are in item number 8.1 of this accession. These began in a numbered sequence, but stop being so towards the end. Information on the receipt includes: check number, date, name of payee, the amount, and a small area for notes. The date range is 12 November 1904 to April 15, 1905 and payees include Charles P. Temple, Manuel M. Zuniga, Margarita Temple Rowland, Walter Temple, and other individuals and businesses. At the back are pages to record debits and credits with two pages filled out showing a deposit on 11 November 1904 and listing nineteen debits for the same total as the deposit. There are, however, more receipts filled out than debits listed at the back. With frayed threads on the cloth cover, surface soiling, ink stains at the left center of the front, a vertical fold, dented corners, and creases, the overall condition is fair.Lexicon
