Description

Color: Gold; Red "Patterns for 1929," a catalog of linoleum and congoleum products manufactured by Congoleum-Nairn, Inc. The 134-page, softcover artifact has a red faux-leather cover with a vine-and-leaf pattern in gold forming a box on the front. Within, on an embossed shield is the title, while below this is the company name. A foreword, title page, and introductory section, explaining the range of products offered by the company, is followed on page 9 with linoleum product listings. These include marbled, inlaid tile, wood plank, jaspe (which appears carpet-like), embossed (with raised surfaces), passage cloth, and printed styles and borders and border strips. There are also variations of the above with brand names like Hudson, Romanesq, including Romanesq ovals and rug-like styles. After page 100 is information on shipping weights, rolled yardage, installation tools. From page 109 are offerings from the congoleum line, including rugs, floor coverings, and mats, with similar simulated materials as above (namely marbled, wood plank, inland tile, etc.) The document concludes with more shipping and yardage information. Most listings are accompanied by color drawings, some being details of the products, others showing the products in the context of a room. In fair condition, the object has creases and some stains on pages, including discoloration and fading on the front fly leaf and abrasions on the cover edges.
