Description

PERRY WORDEN TO WALTER P. TEMPLE, 18 DECEMBER 1927 A one-page, typed letter (a) with envelope (b) from Perry Worden to Walter P. Temple, 18 December 1927. The letter is on plain white stationery and the envelope has a printed return address area and is pre-stamped for postage. Worden wrote to tell Temple of his visit to Dawson's Book Shop and his examination of a scrapbook of an early California historian, which contained an autograph of Jonathan Temple's, dated from San Diego, 27 September 1826. Worden assumed this meant that Temple had moved to California in 1826, not in 1827 as assumed (and noted in a letter from Temple from February 1827), though it is possible that Temple simply was in San Diego on business before returning to Hawaii and then settling in California in 1827. Folded in sixths; with a few creases; and very light discoloration, the letter is in good condition. The envelope is in poor condition with the opening tear at the top, numerous pest holes eated along the edges; ink stains at the top of the reverse; other surface soiling; and discoloration.
