Description

Color: Copper alloy An ashtray commemorating the Philadelphia Sesquicentennial, 1926. The tray is round with the image of the Liberty Bell in the center receptacle. Above the image are the words, "THE / SESQUI CENTENNIAL," and below, "PHILADELPHIA / U S A." Flanking the image are the years, "1776," and "1926." A circle of 13 stars surrounds the perimeter of the receptacle. The edges of the object are raised and have three different designs separated by half-circular indentations for the placement of cigarettes. One of the designs is a dragon or large lizard with a long tongue and surrounded by ornate leaves. The second design consists of intertwined zig-zag lines flanked by ornate leaves. Ornate leaves also flank the third which has a man carrying a large scale with two pans on either end. He stands behind a bridge over water which connects a shore with a building and a shore with trees. There is no maker's mark on the tray. The object has ash stains on the top and some oxidation and light scratches on the bottom, but is overall in good condition.
