Description

Color: Various A photograph album, consisting of 19 photographs from ceremonies commemorating the Yuma Massacre of 1771, held at the Mission San Gabriel and coordinated by Thomas W. Temple II, 1970. The album is a three-ring green binder with the images housed in plastic sleeves with black paper backing. On the spine in red ink at the top is: "Yuma / 1970." Written in pencil on the top of the inner side of the front cover is: "Wreath Bearer / Katy Northrop." The black and white and color photographs are mainly 6 1/2 x 8 1/2, but a few are in smaller sizes. They feature different aspects of the ceremony and feature participants, such as Thomas Temple, Gabriela Temple; descendants of early Spanish and Mexican settlers of southern California; San Gabriel city officals and mission clergy and others. The images were taken in the courtyard in front of the rectory; around the old mission church, including in the El Campo Santo next to the church, where a monument to the Yuma Massacre victims was erected through the efforts of Thomas Temple. The photographs are all in good condition, as is the binder which has some minor wear. Number-Units: 1
