Description

Photograph of John H. and Anita Temple standing in front of the Workman House north side, Rancho La Puente, ca. 1889. The photograph shows the Temple family at the northeast corner of the Workman House. They stand at the corner of the house with John H. Temple, wearing a dark colored vest, trousers and hat and white shirt, holding the hands of his two sons, Pliny F. and F. P. F. II, while Anita D. Temple, wearing a dark dress stands to their right. Behind her against the house is an older unidentified man. Most of the house is visible, including the window on the east wall that is now a door. Some landscaping, including a small tree and, behind it, a trellis, as well as small shrubs and bushes are at the side and front. At the extreme left can be seen portions of the Water Tower and the larger of the Workman wineries. The reverse has the photographer's address. Writing in pencil shows John H. Temple signature, possibly as well as a note "Mrs. John H. Temple/Her father Adrian Davoust/With her two children/Pliny and Frank the latter died 1909." With moderate silverfish damage, minor discoloration of the image, adhesive residue on the reverse, it is in good to fair condition.
