Description

Color: Blue; Red; Yellow "Photo Play," May 1928, published by Street and Smith Corporation, New York. The 122-page artifact has a front cover painting of actress Dorothy Mackaill by Modest Stein, showing the performer in a multi-colored cloche hat, and white fur trim on a jacket. The publication title, issue date, and price are at the top, the name of the actress and painter are at the bottom right, along with the logo of the publisher, and the words "The Poses of the Stars" is at the bottom. Contents include mannerisms or traits cultivated by stars (hence the cover reference to poses); interviews with performers; what stars do in their down time; photographs of actors and actresses; players from Texas; new performers from the Paramount Studios stable; and film reviews. Aside from the many photographs, there are some drawings for illustrations and many advertisements at the front and back. With light soiling, mild discoloration of pages; some tape at the top and bottom of the spine; a few light stains on the covers; and a small tear on the back cover, as well as those covered by tape on the spine, the issue is in good overall condition.
