Description

Pin for the campaign of George A. Smith for Los Angeles mayor, 1906 or 1909. The item features a head-and-shoulder image of Smith with the words "FOR MAYOR" at the top margin and the candidate's name at the bottom. On the top edge is the name and location of the manufacturer. Smith, a councilman before 1906, was a Republican primary candidate in 1906, but withdrew before the election, and appears to have considered a run in 1909. With scratches and rust on the underside, as well as some tarnish on the metal, the overall condition is good.
