Description

Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of the Pio Pico Gallery site looking northwest, 8 November 1976. Seen at the beginning of construction, the dirt site is across the bottom half of the image. In the foreground is a row of rebar in a trench each supported by wood planks. Across the center, lying on the ground, are planks by another row of rebar in the front and right. The end of Don Julian Road, a commercial building, automobiles, and a trailer are seen in the left background by utility posts. At center is a row of trees partially covering the arch of the Mission Walkway's south entrance. To the right is the top of a palm tree behind more trees and the pump house. The Pump House has wood siding, a window on the south wall, and a door on the east with two small square openings on the right; it is capped by a pitched roof and pitched turret on the south end. On the far right is the Water Tower with only a portion of the body, iron balcony on the south, water tank area, and pavilion roof pictured. A stamp in black ink on the back bottom right corner credits Duane C. Alan with the photography and provides his business information. Two identical images are included and are in good condition.
