Color: Black; White
A black and white negative of the Pio Pico mansion in Whittier, ca. 1900. In the center is a courtyard with brick covering the perimeter of the floor. A potted palm is in the middle and two potted bushes on the front left and right; in back of the bush on the right is a wood well. In the back is the center part of the home capped by a wood-shingled roof; three plain wood posts are across the front and below is an exterior walkway with a glass paneled door on the left. On the far left is one of the wings of the home positioned vertically; the wall is white with two windows side-by-side. In front of the windows is a bench which has two small potted plants on top. Leaning against the wall on the far left is a broom by a post and two cans. Next to the broom on the right is a water valve with a bucket positioned below. The other wing is on the far right, also with a shingled roof. Bushes line the bottom of the wing which has wood trellis covering the side wall. In the foreground is the end of the brick-covered courtyard which is followed by a dirt area. This was the home of Pio Pico, the last governor of California under Mexico. With no signs of wear, the object is in good condition.
