Description

RPPC - A colored photographic postcard showing the Pio Pico Mansion, Whittier, 1922. Part of the structure is shown with a crumbling adobe room at left, what appears to be a redwood or redwood-sided room at right and a long section of the adobe behind these two smaller rooms. At the right center is seen part of the wall with an open window or doorway. At left center are three dormers projecting from one side of the gabled roof. To the left and lower right are some bushes and small trees. A note to a Doris Johnston of La Grange, Tennessee is written on the back by her aunt Luella and is dated 20 May 1922. The letter was processed on that day and has a green one cent stamp with George Washington's image. The card was published by the Benham Company of Los Angeles and is in fair condition with some abrasions, discoloration, and edge wear. Purchased from R & N Collectibles of Temple City. Text at top left printed in red is: "Don Pio Pico's Mansion, Last Spanish Governor of California/Near Whittier, Cal."
