Description

PLANTING OF HISTORIC PALM TREE, EAST SIDE OF LA CASA NUEVA Color: Black; White A black and white photograph of a historic palm tree planting at the east side of La Casa Nueva, 1925. The tree is attached to a tackle-and-pulley system that has lifted it up and is near to setting it into place into a hole located near Walter Temple's bedroom at the southeast corner of the house. Two long pieces of wood as braces meet like tent poles. Two men each are supporting these poles. In the hole is a large wood pole, perhaps a telephone or power pole and likely used as a support for the tree when it was finally placed upright. The photographer stands next to the eastern side of the Mission Walkway (where it is noted that grape vines grow from the inside of the walkway, next to the columns, whereas today's are on the outside.) In the background is a flatbed truck. To the left is a portion of the house, including the open screen door to the Cold Storage Pantry and part of the Breakfast Room. In foreground are large piles of dirt and there are blocks of wood and other debris on the ground. They are faded, but the word "VELOX" is stamped on the paper at the reverse. At the lower right corner is a stamped number "48." Aside from light surface soiling and discoloration, the object is in good condition. Number-Units: 1
