Description

STEREOSCOPIC PHOTOGRAPH, PLAZA AREA OF LOS ANGELES FROM FORT MOORE HILL, F. H. Rogers, Los Angeles, ca. 1885. The image shows the tree-ringed plaza at left center, a portion of the Pico House hotel at the far right, a section of the roof and upper level gazebo at the Plaza Church at the far left and some homes around the northern and eastern end of the plaza. In the background are farms and houses out toward Boyle Heights in the distance. Rogers' stamp is on the left and right margins, while an ink inscription on the reverse reads "The Plaza from the hill / Los Angeles Cal." There are stains at the upper sections, especially, of the images and stains, corner wear and wrinkling on the mount, but the condition overall is good.
