Description

Color: White A cotton lace Point de Venice tablecloth, ca. 1920s. The piece has an outer border of c-scrolls with bunches of flowers within. Then there is a frame created by two tapes within which are smaller c-scrolls with one six-petalled flower inside and floral designs connecting each scroll. Meeting the inner tape at four corners are large three-petalled floral designs, adjoining which are panels with three dancing figures in each. At the shorter ends of the piece, in between these panels, there is one dancing woman, surrounded by two smaller figures, while on the longer ends there are five sets of these designs on each side. In between these dancing figures are panels with fleur-de-lis designs. Within these are, at four corners, heart-shaped panels with two-horse chariots and one rider. On the longer sides, in between the chariot panels, are groups of three dancing figures, the larger of which is at center blowing a horn, and the two smaller being cherubs. Within the center are two tapes with c-scrolls and flowers forming an oval, within which are five panels: three larger circular ones in the middle and two smaller ovals at the end. At the intersection of these panels and perpendicular to them are elongated oval patterns with overlays of 12-petalled flowers. Within the smaller oval panels are fleur-de-lis and c-scrolls, while the larger circular panels have elongated 12-petalled flowers and c-scrolls. With little indication of wear or damage, the piece is in good condition.
