Description
POLLY'S SUPER SAFE ELECTRIC CHRISTMAS LIGHT STRING
Color: Black; Blue
A string of Polly's Super Safe electric Christmas lights, ca. 1920s. The artifact, housed within item 1.1, consists of seven bulbs, though five of these are dark blue in color, while the other two are lighter blue and also are fluted to look like flames. Stamped on the bottom of the glass portion of the bulbs is the logo for General Electric. It is not known, however, which of the two types are original to the string. The bases of the lights are bakelite, as are the plugs at the end of the cord, which is fabric. One of the plugs connects to the socket, while the other is a receptacle for other strings and both have wreathes on them with the word "L. P. / CORP." signifying the manufacturer, the Leo Pollock Corporation. Holes on both sides of the plugs are for tie-clamps that join sets of strings together (see item 2.2 for instructions on how this was done.) The string is in poor to fair condition, with the bulb surfaces scratched in places; the bakelite bases discolored; the fabric cord frayed and torn in many places and rust on the metal screws of the plugs.
