Description

Color: Black; White "Pop Corn for the Home," a bulletin for farmers issued by the U. S. Department of Agriculture, 1926 printing of a revised 1920 edition. The 12-page artifact, number 553 in a series of Farmers' Bulletins, has that information, along with the department's name at the top, under which, in larger white letters, is the title. This is over a photograph of a group seated on the floor next to a fireplace popping some corn. The department's logo is at the lower right. Page two, on the inside front cover, explains that pop corn production in homes is encouraged to interest children in farm life and as winter recreation. Contents are listed on page three and include the use of the home garden for growing corn; the choice of a variety; planting; care; harvesting and storing; hand poppers; how to pop corn; and other home uses. There are several black and white photographs of corn patches in home gardens and the four different types of hand-held poppers. At the end are a few recipes for chocolate and sugar popcorn and popcorn balls. Over the photograph on the front cover is the penciled number "94." While there are some small stains on the back, slight discoloration, and a few creases, the artifact is in good condition.
