Description

Color: Green, blue, white, brown, black, pink A photographic postcard of the Pio Pico Mansion, Whittier, ca. 1908. Color tinted in greens, blues, and browns the image shows the adobe mansion pictured in center background with a brown shingle roof and surrounded by trees. A white picket fence seperates the mansion from a road in the foreground. The picture appears to be taken from a house accross the road as it has a white picket fence surrounding the lawn. There are rose bushes along the fence and a large palm tree at the left hand side of the picture. Two people appear to be standing in the yard, one is a child standing in front of the fence looking towards the camera. The second person is half visible behind the palm tree at left. On the top right hand corner the description reads: "Mansion of Pio Pico / (the last spanish Governor of California) / Whittier, Cal." Postcard addressed to Mrs. H. Wertenbaker, 1254 E. 50 St. Los Angeles, Cal. Message reads: "Whittier Cal 9, 13, '08 Dear Bro. and Sister, Rec'd your card. Sorry you cannot come. Thursday suits us just as well. Hope you will not be disappointed this time. We will have company today. All well. Respectfully Mr and Mrs A. Richards." Postmark is dated September 13 from Whittier and has a one cent stamp featuring Benjamin Franklin.
