POTTENGER'S SANATORIUM, MONROVIA, CAL.Entry/Object ID
97.16.1.8Description
Postcard: A color postcard of Pottenger's Sanatorium, Monrovia, ca. 1915. The sanitorium, located at the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, part of which are seen at left, consists of a large white building, probably the administration and hospital building, at center, two smaller white structures to its left and a number of identical structures that probably were the living quarters of the patients. The card, addressed to Martha M. Quimby of Albany, Vermont, was written in a rambling manner with writing in several directions, but was not mailed. The text indicates that the sanitorium was for tuberculosis patients. The card has a seal for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition, indicating its date of manufacture. Published by The Benham Co. of Los Angeles and purchased from dealer Jim Reid, the card is in good condition with minor discoloration and edge wear. The text concerns a description of the sanitorium, the patients' quarters, and the method of removing patients who die while there.Lexicon
