Description

An unmounted cabinet card of President William McKinley at the La Fiesta de los Angeles parade, C.C. Pierce, May 1901. The view is taken from the street on which the parade took place. At street level amid a flower-banked barrier and in front of a covered reviewing stand, the bare-headed President greets some men standing on the street and surrounded by horse-mounted men in plumed hats. Behind the president and the stand is a grandstand set up in front of a commercial building (perhaps city hall) and it is filled with spectators. The stand spans the length of the photo and there is a portion of another commercial structure at the upper left. With a substantial section of the lower left, which presumably only showed the street, missing and other small tears, losses, creases, curvature of the paper and some soiling, the overall condition is fair.
