97.28.1.12Description
A colored photographic postcard of the Pasadena Public Library, ca. 1913. Partially hidden by palm trees in the foreground, the Romanesque-style structure features heavy block walls, quoins, wide arched entry and steep roof lines. There is a tower at left with a steep conical-shaped roof and another tower at right resembles a pagoda with split-level four-gabled roofs and weathervane. A woman and three children stand on the entrance walk. The number 1238 at lower left indicates a photographer's identification. The message was written by someone named May to Mrs. Harry Sproule of Los Angeles and postmarked 19 March 1913. The card, purchased from HM volunteer Bill Stone, was published by the Western Publishing & Novelty Company of Los Angeles and is in fair condition with a crease at top left front, corner and edge dents, minor stains on front and back, and a tear at the upper left front repaired with tape. The letter, in dark ink, reads: "Heard from Mr. Sell/in my dreams/last night and he/was awfully angry./Mrs. Fiske wrote a/friend in N. Y. that/some startling changes/are to take place in/possibli the near/future. I'm sorry./May"Lexicon
