Description

PURCELL ADOBE, SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA, ca. 1908. The colored postcard shows the exterior view of the Purcell Adobe in San Gabriel, Cal. As it is shown on the postcard, written in red print, the Purcell home is noted for being one of the earliest constructed adobe homes built during the 1770s. The adobe home has a patio supported by various columns. The middle two columns appear to have an overgrowth of ivy that extends upward toward the shingled roof. To the left of the adobe structure is a barely visible set of palm trees with other various types of trees and shrubbery shown. In the background is a wooden structure which appears to be located behind the adobe home. The reverse side has writing in black ink and a Benjamin Franklin one cent postage stamp. With various damage ranging from abrasion damage, discoloration, fading and light stains, the postcard is in fair condition.
