A purse owned by Maria Antonia Dominguez Davoust given to her by Pio Pico, ca. 1870s. The heavily beaded purse is made of velvet, and seed beads formed into a floral pattern with a border, a silver chain, and a metal clasp. At the bottom are loops form for decorative purposes, made up of more seed beading. The interior lining is a beige satin. With some tarnish, tearing of the upper portion of the fabric near the clasp opening, it is in fair condition overall. A note written by Maria's grandaughter, Dorothy Woods in January 1, 1974, states that the purse was considered for evening wear and was given to her grandmother, Maria Antonia Dominguez Davoust, by Pio Pico, the last Mexican Governor of California.
