Description

PUT'S GOLDEN SONGSTER & PUT'S ORIGINAL CALIFORNIA SONGSTER. Two songbooks bound together: "Put's Original California Songster (San Francisco: D.E. Appleton & Co., 4th ed., 1968) and "Put's Golden Songster" (San Francisco: D.E. Appleton & Co., 1st ed., 1858). Each songbook has a text of 64 pages and includes a table of contents. The songbooks contain song lyrics about early California at the time of the mining camps from 1849 to after the Civil War. The 1868 edition has a preface telling the history of the "Put's Songster". The 1858 edition has a list of "Mining Localities Peculiar to California" on the last two pages. Both editions are bound between their original pink paper wrappers. The paper was of inferior quality and has now yellowed and become brittle. There are some tears and old repairs. Both songbooks have a red stamp on the first page put there by a secondhand bookstore. The overall appearance and physical condition of the songsters is fair. Modern hardcover binding is in good condition. New & Secondhand Books/Eugene Ginss/22 Montegomery Avenue/San Francisco Cal.
