The front cover has a greeting at right center, reading "CHRISTMAS / That name / must e'er / instil [sic] / To Christian / hearts the / word / Good-will." Above this is the town, with snow-covered houses in gold and a low-slung sun amidst clouds in gold tints. At the lower left foreground are three rabbits, one black, a second brown, and a third gold, in the snow. Inside is a separate sheet, bound to the cover by a piece of green yarn tied in a bow on the outside spine. At the top is a colophon from Charles Dickens: "Many, many / happy years / to you." Under this is a message reading "With kindest / greetings / and sincere / good wishes / for Christmas. / From" and handwritten after this last, in black ink, is "Maude to Maude." At the bottom right corner of the back cover is "SHARPE'S / `CLASSIC'."
