Color: Black; White
A black and white reproduction photograph of Rafaela Cota de Temple (b. 1811), wife of Jonathan Temple (1796-1866), ca. 1860. Appears to be a studio portrait, showing Mrs. Temple seated with her right hand, in which she holds a fan, resting on a table. She wears a dark-colored patterned dress with a sash running on both sides of the front and white ruffles on the sleeves, as well as a waist chain. The waist chain could be a chatelaine which was a key belt with chain that was used to hang various keys, often seen as a visual symbol of a woman's wealthy status. She wears a black lace mantilla running down the upper third of her back. The photo is in fair condition having been stored in a plastic trash can in a garage and exposed to rain, though are only slight indications of staining and damage. The letter N is written in pencil on the back upper edge.
