"Raising the Veil; or, Scenes in the Courts," Ball Fenner (Boston: James French and Company,) 1856. The work discusses matters relating to the administration of criminal justice, mainly in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia, but also has a brief section on California, in particular legal matters in the mines. Much of the work concerns anecdotes that are filled with humor, irony, and criticism. There are some illustrations.
