RAMONA'S HOME SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA (CA. 1925)
Postcard; A color postcard showing a building identified as Ramona's home in San Gabriel, ca. 1927. The building, an adobe with a wooden second-story addition and shingled, gabled roof is at center with a sign hanging from the roof, identifying it as the "Mission Play Inn." At right is an entrance gate (probably for the 1861 grapevine) next to a very large tree. Behind the adobe is the top of the "bell tower" and neon bell sign for the Mission Play House, completed in 1927. In the foreground is Mission Drive with three cars parked in front of the inn. The building was erroneously identified as the home of the fictional heroine in Helen Hunt Jackson's 1884 novel. The unused card was published by the Mission Curio and Art Shop of San Gabriel and manufactured by The Albertype Company of Brooklyn. Purchased from dealer Jim Reid. It is in good condition with some edge wear, especially at the corners, discoloration, and stains across the reverse. None
