Description

REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE TO WILLIAM WORKMAN, VERACRUZ, 1851 A registration certificate issued to William Workman by Jose de Emparan, mayor of Veracruz, Mexico, 6 February 1851. The certificate is on paper stationery with the Mexican seal at center top; the document number (3268) at top right; the mayor's name and title printed at the center; the text at lower center; and the mayor's printed signature at lower right. The text is in Spanish and certifies that Workman, noted as Julian Workman, presented himself for registration with the National Guard as required by Mexican law. This appears to have allowed him to continue on by sea from the port city on his way to England, where he was known to be a month later. In fair condition, the document has numerous creases; was folded in quarters, with pressure-sensitive tape applied to tears on the folds; small stains on the reverse lower left; pencil marks on the reverse; and discoloration. Pencil marks on the reverse are: "S / U / 11 / As is."
